Look again

It's been a while since I contributed anything to what is now called my higher education 'thinking space'. Tempted by the potential to redesign the site easily, I've read through and found some interesting and useful reflections on what I was thinking about a year ago. And I have to say that not much has changed, except that more experience has been added.

In the past year, I've been doing some projects in medical education, hoping that the pragmatic, 'life and death' context of medicine would provide a grounded reality in which to provide learning (for junior doctors and their supervisors). I'm in the process of putting this work down, because here, too, the compliance culture is leaving no wriggle room for real change and development. As long as it looks as though we're going through the right hoops, as long as the audit ticks the right boxes, we will continue to ride on the rhetoric of values we developed in the last century, without question

I'm also involved in a continuing professional development 'framework' for a university - aiming to integrate the HR approach with a challenging and useful development process for individuals and for the organisation. Another last chance to fix higher education? Probably not.

 Maybe I can continue to reflect, here.
